Suicide Methods Differ Between Men and Women

Women who commit suicide are more likly then men to aviod facial disfiguration. This is a big deal because understanding gender differences in suicide methods has important implications for suicide prevention efforts. They proved this fact around the world many scientist have seen that women aviod the face when they commit suicide. Some of the authors conclude: “To suggest that women are less likely to shoot themselves in the face or head because they are more concerned about their appearance than men is to minimize the significance of the act of suicide. What we do know is that those experiencing stressful life events are at far greater risk of employing an especially lethal method of suicide than those not experiencing such events.” i thought that this was a intresting arcticle and I enjoyed learning about this!:)

Could Soccer Give Homeless Men a Health Kick?

Date:(Oct. 2, 2011)

Summary:

Research says that playing street soccer two or three time a week could halve the risk of early death in homeless men. The leading cause to homeless people death is mostly cardiovascular disease. This is because they have low aerobic fitness and high levels of hypertension and that most homeless people misuse drugs and alcohol.

55 people homeless men living in Copenhagen were included in a control group or invited to attend four a side soccer training sessions two or three times a week for 12 weeks. The result of that training it improved their cholesterol, and their body fat and blood pressure was reduced. Their average maximal oxygen uptake was increased by 11%.Their chance of death decreases by 50%.

Lead author Professor Peter Krustrup of the University of Exeter said, “Street football for homeless men is very intense and 12 weeks of training significantly improves the fitness and cardiovascular health profile of these men. We also observed a very high attendance rate, which is promising for future adherence to physical activity.” He also said, “Football seems to be a great type of fitness training for most people. Not only does it encourage varied, intense training, it is social and it can be played anywhere.”

What I liked about the artical:

I like that the homless people can do somthing so they can live longer. If they play soccer it might give them somthing to do other than smoke or drink. Then they can have a better future. I think that soccer is amazing because it can save homeless peoples lives. Thats why i like this artical.
